The Language of the Holy Spirit

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will. (Ro8:26,27)

Speaking in the language of the Holy Spirit is one of the tools we have to strengthen ourselves. To our natural mind speaking in the language of the Holy Spirit is foolishness. But a person who speaks in tongues is strengthened personally,...(1Co14:4) It was mentioned by Jesus before He ascended into heaven after appearing to disciples when He rose from the dead. "These miraculous signs will accompany those who believe. ...they will speak in new languages. (Mk16:17)

Speaking in the language of the Holy Spirit is not conditional upon our level of faith nor is it exclusive. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. (Ac2:4) It is not limited to the coming of the Holy Spirit as mentioned in Acts Chapter Two. Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell on all who were listening to the message. ...For they heard them speaking in other tongues and praising God. (Ac10:44,46) Then when Paul laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in other tongues and prophesied. (Ac19:6)

When we speak and pray in the language of the Holy Spirit, we bypass the mind and pray Spirit to Spirit. Our mind can not sabotage our worship by trying to distract us from thinking about a thousand things other than God. "For God is Spirit, so those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth." (Jo4:24) For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don't understand what I am saying. Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit, and I will also pray in words I understand. I will sing in the spirit and I will sing in words I understand. I thank God that I speak in tongues more than any of you.(1Co14:14,15,18) Speaking to God in our Holy Spirit language is something we should do regularly to strengthen ourselves and to worship God the way He asks us to worship Him.

Another benefit of praying in the language of the Holy Spirit is that we don't word our prayer in such a way that we are actually telling God the outcome or result we would like. When we pray, Spirit to Spirit, the heart and mind are ignorant of what is being said and we pray in line with the will of God. (Ro8:27)God's ways are so much higher than our ways, "My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts," says the LORD. "And My ways are far beyond anything you could imagine....so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts." (Is55:8,9) If we want God to move in our lives as He sees fit, and beyond what we could ever imagine, we need to unbiasedly ask for His intervention through praying with the Holy Spirit's help, using the language He has given us.

There is a place for praying and worshiping God in church meetings but unless there someone is present who can interpret what is being said, it remains a secret between the Holy Spirit and God. But in a church meeting I would rather speak five understandable words to help others than ten thousand words in an unknown language. (1Co14:19) So you see speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers but for unbelievers. Even so, if unbelievers or people who don't understand these things come into your church meeting and hear everyone speaking in an unknown language, they will think you are crazy. (1Co14:22,23)

Worshipping God in the Spirit is a sure antidote for a bad day. If we are down and what we think is the worse thing that could happen, just has, we can reach up to the heavens and worship in the throne room of God. Leaving what is going on here on earth, we can refresh ourselves and remind ourselves that God is still in control of our circumstances by taking a few minutes to worship Him in Spirit and in truth.

Praise the Name of Jesus!
