Lessons From a LIghthouse

You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that can not be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. (Ma5:14,15)

These scriptures are quoted from the New Living Translation second edition except where stated otherwise. Where there are three full stops (...), part of the verse has been omitted.

Distractions

"Why are you living in your luxurious houses while My house lies in ruins? This is what the LORD of Heaven's Armies says: Look at what's happening to you! You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied....Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes!...Why?

These scriptures are quoted from the New Living Translation second edition except where stated otherwise. Where there are three full stops (...), part of the verse has been omitted.

Living Life Like Jesus

And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face Him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. (1Jo4:17)

These scriptures are quoted from the New Living Translation second edition except where stated otherwise. Where there are three full stops (...), part of the verse has been omitted.

Lessons From Jesus' Brothers

But soon it was time for the Jewish festival of Shelters, and Jesus' brothers said to Him, "Leave here and go to Judea, where Your followers can see Your miracles! You can't become famous if You hide like this! If You can do such wonderful things, show Yourself to the world!" For even His brothers didn't believe in Him. (Jo7:2-5) Don't we have the right to bring a Christian wife with us as the other apostles and the Lord's brothers do, and as Peter does?(1Co9:5)

Oceans

So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of His call. May He give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do. (1Th1:17) You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God's Word. You are like babies who need milk and can not eat solid food. (He5:12)

These scriptures are quoted from the New Living Translation second edition except where stated otherwise. Where there are three full stops (...), part of the verse has been omitted.

Be Careful Little Ears What You Hear

"I create the light and make the darkness. I send good times and bad times. I, the LORD, am the One who does these things." (Is45:7) People can never predict when hard times might come. Like fish in a net or birds in a trap, people are caught by sudden tragedy. (Ec9:12) How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog - it's here a little while, then it's gone. (Ja4:14)

These scriptures are quoted from the New Living Translation second edition except where stated otherwise. Where there are three full stops (...), part of the verse has been omitted.

A Different Perspective

So we don't look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever. (2Co4:18) Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we can not see. (He11:1)

LORD, Open My Eyes

Then Elisha prayed, "O LORD, open his eyes and let him see!" The LORD opened the young man's eyes, and when he looked up, he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. (2Ki6:17)

Summer has finally arrived in this part of the world, so it is difficult to drive during the day without sunglasses on. If I do, all I can see is the bright light and not what is in front of me. Putting on my sunglasses doesn't change what is in front of me on the road, it only allows me to see more of what is in front of me.

This Isn't What I Expected

For a child is born to us, a Son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders....(Is9:6) So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking Him, "Lord, has the time come for You to free Israel and restore our kingdom?" (Ac1:6)

These scriptures are quoted from the New Living Translation second edition except where stated otherwise. Where there are three full stops (...), part of the verse has been omitted.

Empty Hands

...Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it with good things. (Ps81:10)

I have a photo taken when I was four years old wearing a pretty pink dress, a cardboard crown on my head and silver shoes with glitter on my feet. I had been on stage tap dancing but the photo also shows a crumpled handkerchief in my hand. I still have the habit of carrying something around that I should put down to make the task I am trying to complete easier.
